«In the merry month of May (2004) I will become 70 years old. To celebrate this event, I plan to mix and serve "Ben cocktails" for all friends, who wish to meet me on the summit of "Fuji-San" Japan on the 29th of May 2004. Yes, it would be very simple to fly, non-stop from Frankfurt to Tokyo. But, how boring! I will travel with the "Trans-Siberian Railroad" and realize an old dream of George Maciunas to make a "Grand Fluxus Concert Tour" in various cities along the "Trans-Siberian". Maybe, this will be a "tough-stuff" expedition, or maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.»

With these words Ben Patterson has announced his first great tour through Japan, and the following long itinerant performance, in the most classical Fluxus spirit. We decided then to celebrate this event in Genoa too, with a show that consists of 30 small art-works. These works will be collages/assemblages mounted under glass in special frames. Each work will refer to a specific event/adventure in the life of Ben Patterson (such as "My Grand 70th Birthday Tour", or the 6 weeks of adventures in Patagonia in 1984, or his first exhibition in the Emily Harvey Gallery, after 20 years of retirement from the art world, or the inauguration of "The Museum for Sub-Conscious", in Namibia, etc., etc.). Technically, these works will be rather simpleŠ the collages will consist, mostly, of only 3-5 elements. However, each element will have a very personal and authentic meaning for the artist. A big part of these art-works will relate to "My Grand 70th Birthday Tour" that means, these works will be based on "souvenirs" collected during this tour.

On Saturday, June 26, at 6 p.m., in the Sculptures Museum in Portofino, there will be the presentation of an artwork created on purpose by Ben Patterson.

Le Musée d'Art Moderne présente une exposition à caractère rétrospectif consacrée à un artiste français qui fut l'un des acteurs majeurs de l'art international à partir des années 60. Il s'agit de la première exposition de grande ampleur consacrée à l'artiste depuis 1990. Elle réunit environ 200 oeuvres réalisées entre 1960 et 1987.
